What is Subwhatever?
Subwhatever is a running site built around stories that matter.
Some are curated. Some are original. All of them are here because they capture something true about running, endurance, and the lives built around them.
That includes race reports, original features, cultural pieces, reflections, and gear coverage with a point of view. Not content for content’s sake. Not performance hacks. Just real writing for runners who care about the work, the culture, and the meaning underneath it.
Whether you’re chasing a sub-3 marathon, a sub-24 hundred miler, or something quieter, it’s never only about the goal. It’s about what the pursuit asks of you along the way.
Whatever you’re chasing it—run under it.
About the Editor
I’m Bryce Carlson, a runner, writer, and attorney based in Colorado. I contribute to Borderlands Trail & Ultra where I write about races, gear, and endurance culture. I’m also proud to represent PATH Projects as part of their KREW.
I live on Colorado’s Front Range with my wife and three kids. A lot of my life is shaped by early mornings, training, family, faith, and the steady rhythm that running brings. I care about the stories running tells, especially the ones that last longer than the result.
Over the last several years, I’ve raced both road marathons and technical ultras, and I know what it means to train seriously, chase meaningful goals, and keep showing up over time.
Subwhatever is where I collect the stories, ideas, and questions that keep me interested in running. Some are curated. Some are original. All of them are here because they say something real.
