Borderlands + Laz Lake

PC: Ben Robie

I was lucky enough to sit in on the three-part interview between Borderlands and Laz Lake. Front row. Just listening.

It wasn’t dramatic. It wasn’t polished. It was two people talking without rushing through it. In fact, we spent over five hours with Laz at his house in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. We even walked most of the 3.67 mile Big’s Backyard loop together.

I wrote about the experience for Like the Wind (Issue 48, out March 2026). But the interviews themselves are better than anything I could summarize.

By Part III, it settles into something unique. Laz isn’t performing. He’s just thinking out loud. There’s a little humor. A little edge. A little Hemingway. Eventually it stops being about ultra running at all. Actually, I’m not sure it ever was.
